Incident from Junior Cricket game - From Cricket Shepparton

15 Feb 2024 by Chris Crouch

Hi All

Today I was made aware of disturbing incident involving a member of the public that occurred at one of our Junior Games. Without going into all the details, a man who had no connection to the players, entered onto the oval and approached one of the female players.

The two coaches, saw the male and immedietly went to the player to ensure her safety. Based on what occurred, they called the police.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate those involved for your clear headed, calm decision’s which ensured the safety and wellbeing of all of the players.

Secondly, it is a timely reminder that no person’s who are not players or umpires are allowed on the field during play. We have been made aware of some parent’s taking their child a drink. Please do not allow this as this makes it very difficult for those in charge to know who is known by the players, and who is not.

Although this was a very disturbing incident, thankfully no one was harmed and those in charge of both teams ticked all the correct boxes to ensure the safety of the players. It did however highlight the need we have to protect our players.

With thanks
